Back to Basics: Pedicures 101
At this point you might be thinking, “What exactly is a pedicure?” In short, it’s awesome. Basically, you sit in a huge massage chair reading old issues of Newsweek while your feet soak in a tiny hot tub. Next, a cute girl (technically they are called “technicians”) trims your nails, scrapes your heels, and massages your feet with hot oil. Hot towels may be involved, maybe some hot paraffin wax. Finally, you’ll be asked if you want clear polish. It’s up to you, though many men opt out of the polish treatment.
Dirty feet are a breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria, and a pedicure is one of the most effective ways to get rid of all the dirt stuck under your toenails, ground zero for fungal infections. During the treatment, your feet will also be exfoliated to remove dead skin that has the potential to cause problems. By adding essential oils to the soaking solution, you can also get additional anti-bacterial protection.
