Wearing socks with sandals has long been a source of ridicule, something saved for the likes of clueless dads, tourists and hippies. So it may be surprising to you that the sandals/socks combo is now considered high fashion to some.
According to The WSJ, Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, Marni and other luxury labels showcased the pairing at men’s runway shows in June. And by July, attendees at men’s New York Fashion Week were wearing them. Footwear-maker Teva even recently started selling sock-and-sandal packages while offering an online guide on how to pull off the look.
The trend can be traced to the sports locker room. Athletes have been wearing rubber slides with socks for quite sometime now because, hey, they’re comfortable.

But not everyone’s on board with the look, and some have taken to shaming socks-and-sandals wearers on social media, photos of strangers on Twitter and Instagram while writing “#socksandsandals” in the caption.
