Unexpectedly Successful: A Man Cave Where?

Who knew that what worked best for my business actually entailed catering to men, instead of my true target market.

Before the boutique opened I always recognized that one of my main sales strategies would center around keeping women in the store shopping as long as absolutely possible. Makes, sense right? The longer they’re inside, the more items they fall in love with, and the more difficult it is for them to walk out the door without them. One of the early obstacles I had to overcome was that my demographic typically shops with someone – either with their friends (fantastic – two customers for the price of one), or with their significant other. Sigh. This latter companion consistently posed a threat to the shopping environment I was so carefully trying to create, because let’s face it – as agreeable as they may try to seem in doing so, most men simply do not enjoy sitting and waiting for someone to try on a never-ending number of potential new outfits. In fact, these male counterparts created an undesirable sense of urgency for their ladies to speed up the shopping process, which was obviously the opposite experience I wanted to build.

The solution? A man cave.
