Supplements: What’s Really Worth the Hype? The 10 Supplements Every Man Should Take

Coconut Oil

(for obesity)
Does eating fat make you fat? It’s a hot topic, to be sure, but coconut oil has been proven to combat obesity. How? Studies show that adding coconut oil to your diet can help aid fat loss, especially the troublesome area around the abdominal cavity. Coconut oil is high in medium chain triglycerides, the fatty acids which boost metabolism. They are stored less efficiently than other fats, and studies have shown that people who add medium chain fatty acids to their diet have reduced appetite. The key here is that if you are already eating a fixed amount of calories and then add coconut oil on top of that, you will gain weight. This is more of a substitute than a supplement. Try replacing some of your other cooking fats (olive or vegetable oil) with coconut oil. Aim for about 30 grams per day, or 2 tablespoons.
