“So, salt is ok in moderation?” you ask. Yes, but be sure to monitor your daily consumption, and chances are it is way higher than you think. Cutting back to what is considered moderate can feel drastic, but the less salt you eat the more you will taste the real flavor or whole foods, and you’ll find yourself craving salt less and less.
The Good
I was one of those people with a weight problem and a blood pressure problem, and I was surprised to learn of my high blood pressure because I never salted my food with table salt. Well, it turns out I didn’t have to. The snack magnates got together with Big Soda, and brought in the cold cut conglomerates to conspire against me and pump me so full of salt that I was on the brink of becoming an ocean, or at least a small sea or strait. So I went the extreme, no-salt route.
I stopped eating processed foods and cooked with a no-salt substitute and everything was going fine, until I suffered a few dizzy spells after standing up too quickly. Then I realized that completely abstaining might not be the best thing to do. It was my doctor who first said to me, “Well, you need some salt in your body.” To which I replied, “What are you, my doctor?” To which she replied, “Yes.” Guess what? She was right.
