The Daily Method: Trimming the Beast
Trimming is by far the easiest and most cost-effective way of managing your nose and ear hair. While it may seem like a reasonable idea to use things that are already in the house, like scissors or toenail clippers, it’s better to use tools that are specific to the task. They work better, reduce the risk of cutting yourself and help avoid infection.
Grooming scissors are made specifically for trimming nose and ear hair and they work well for eyebrows too. These scissors feature curved tips to follow the contour of your nostril and ears. Electric nose hair trimmers offer yet another safe and effective option for keeping your ear and nose hair trimmed. A lot of people use the scissors for nose hair and the trimmers for ear hair (it’s harder to see what you are doing when trying to cut hair on the side of your head).
Most good barbers will trim your ear hair and eyebrow hair, but perhaps not as comprehensively as you want or as frequently as you need — but it’s still a nice value add.
Trimming your back hair is not as easy, though there are DIY options like the Mangroomer. Most likely you’ll have your wife or girlfriend trim your hair, or you’ll select one of the other options below. Keep in mind that using an electric shaver on your back might work well, but the hair will grow back quickly and you’ll be increasing your risk for ugly and painful ingrown hairs.
ForMen Take: Trimming is a good option for ear and nose hair, we like more permanent solutions for back hair.
