Cardiac Fitness Reduces Mental Decline As You Age

“The researchers found cardiorespiratory fitness was positively linked to the structural integrity of white matter fiber bundles in the brain in the older adults, while no such association was observed in younger adults.”

A new study is the first to find a connection between your cardiovascular fitness and brain health. “The researchers found cardiorespiratory fitness was positively linked to the structural integrity of white matter fiber bundles in the brain in the older adults, while no such association was observed in younger adults.”

There is more research to be done, as the sample size isn’t that large and more information on duration, frequency and type of exercise needs to be developed. That said, it’s another reason to stay fit and even though there is no relationship between exercise and brain health in the younger group, we know that it’s easier to form habits when you are younger (not to mention, there are clearly many benefits to working out throughout your life that aren’t related to mental capacity.)
