Heart disease is a serious issue. Even though prevention and treatment measures have steadily declined its death rates, one in four Americans will still die of heart disease, making it the leading cause of death in the U.S.
But here is some good news: According to new research, more than 50% of heart disease deaths in men are due to preventable risk factors. They are as follows:
- Smoking
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
It’s important to know these risk factors and either avoid them, (smoking and obesity), or treat them right away (diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol). Even if heart health hasn’t been your priority until now, don’t worry. Healthy choices and changes you make now will strengthen your heart and ensure it is healthy for the long haul!
